Stengthening our Communities

APAF seeks to strengthen the communities in which we live and work. It has led efforts in education, disaster relief fundraising, and healthcare. Determined to help address the United States' growing educational crisis in math and science, APAF launched a STEM program and curriculum called Igniting Minds, which is designed to teach math and science fundamentals to students in public middle schools in underserved communities. Each year the program is delivered to upwards of 200 students in over 25 schools across the United States. In recognition for its impact, Igniting Minds has received awards from Public Education Partners and the 2013 STEM Education Award by the Technology Association of Georgia.

Active in disaster relief, APAF mobilized its hubs to raise money for the victims of the catastrophic earthquake and tsunami in Japan, the massive flooding in Pakistan, Super Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines, and most recently the Nepal earthquake. APAF-led fundraising helped raise hundreds of thousands of dollars. Through APAF and the other affinity networks have led more than 200 events and provided over 5,000 volunteer hours. Through the GE Foundations’ Developing Health Globally (DHG)and Developing Health (DH) in the United States In 2014, APAF, in partnership with GGO, launched the Social Entrepreneurism and Education Development (SEED) program which provides mentoring and financial support to university students with entrepreneurial endeavors aimed to improve the social circumstances of people in Asia.
